Indicted Texas AG Hires New Legal Team

Texas AG Ken Paxton

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has hired new lawyers to defend him on felony charges of defrauding investors.

Paxton said Thursday he anxiously awaits his day in court and again denied allegations of misleading investors in a tech startup in 2011, when the Republican was still a state lawmaker.

Paxton's new legal team is former Dallas prosecutor Terri Moore and Houston attorney Dan Cogdell. The announcement comes two weeks after Paxton's previous high-powered attorney resigned over differences with the state's top law enforcement officer.

Paxton is charged with two counts of securities fraud and a lesser charge of not registering with Texas securities regulators. He faces five to 99 years in prison if convicted on the most serious charges.

Paxton, who took office in January, has pleaded not guilty.
