Inmate Stabbed To Death At NM Correctional Facility In Las Cruces

New Mexico prison officials say an inmate was stabbed to death in a gang-related attack.  Reports say 34-year-old Javier Enrique Molina had ties to inmates who were all part of the same gang at the Southern New Mexico Correctional Facility in Las Cruces.

New Mexico Corrections Department spokeswoman Alex Tomlin says Molina was stabbed just after 6 p.m. Friday in a common area where inmates play cards and watch TV.

New Mexico State Police say the assault involved several inmates. Police have not yet made any arrests but recovered a metal shank they believe was the weapon used.

Tomlin says Molina never mentioned any enemies or threats to prison staff.

Molina was serving a 13-year sentence for armed robbery, evidence tampering, escape from jail and forgery.
