Jesse Jackson, Jr. To Speak In El Paso

El Paso – JESSE JACKSON JR., member of the United States House of Representatives, will address members and guests of the Black El Paso Democrats at the 28th Annual Political Awareness and Awards Banquet, Saturday, February 19, 2011, at the Wyndham El Paso Airport Hotel.

Congressman Jackson, who represents Illinois's 2nd Congressional District, was active in international civil rights work and participated in his father's presidential campaigns. During his time in public office he has co-authored three books, including two on financial literacy. He also co-wrote A More Perfect Union, which advances a series of constitutional amendments that would guarantee all Americans the right to vote, and the right to high quality education, health care and housing.

In an effort to bring much needed jobs and increased economic activity to the Southland area, he champions the cause for the proposed 3rd major airport in Chicago. In addition to being an active and articulate spokesperson for Democratic organizations, Congressman Jackson has also served as co-chairman of Barack Obama's presidential campaign.

This year's theme is "Yes He Did, Yes We Will, Move America Forward". This theme reflects the purpose of the Black El Paso Democrats which is to provide a better response to public needs. The reach of the Black El Paso Democrats transcends racial, political and socio-economic lines. At this year's banquet, the BEPD will honor community and business leaders for their service to and within the city.

Social hour begins at 6:00 PM and the Dinner/Program begins at 7:00 PM.

Tickets are $50 each or $500 for a table of 10. Tickets will be $70 each or $700 for a table of 10 at the door. R.E.L. Washington Century Club Membership is $100.00.
