King: Martinez Sticks To Scripted Comments During Forum

Democratic candidate for New Mexico Governor Gary King today wasted no time correcting Governor Martinez about the misrepresentations contained in one of her latest campaign attack ads.  King told a crowd of several hundred that Martinez forgot to mention that it was his office that put the ‘Casanova Con Man’ in prison, that his agents went to the east coast to arrest him, and his prosecutors who convicted him.

During today’s televised Gubernatorial Forum, sponsored by an Albuquerque commercial real estate organization,  the governor seldom looked up from reading the script her handlers prepared for the event. Her comments on the economy and education came straight her campaign handbook.

“Its too bad the governor had to rely on her scripted notes to discuss what she would do to improve New Mexico’s ailing economy and struggling education system,” said King after the forum.  “I doubt that anyone in the audience or at home watching on TV learned anything from her comments, which were mostly regurgitated campaign slogans.”

King pointed out that he has been crisscrossing the state, talking and listening to people and learning firsthand what is important to New Mexicans.  He said his shoes were scuffed and dusty from walking the streets of towns and villages while Martinez’s shoes were nice and polished from attending high-brow fundraisers across the country.

King also said the governor’s attempt to jump start New Mexico’s economy by giving big corporations a tax break has been a dismal failure. And her mismanagement of state schools has teachers angry, students upset, and parents uncertain about their children’s future.
