Las Cruces Area High School Voter Registration Drive

The Doña Ana County Clerk’s office is sending staff to high-school classrooms throughout Doña Ana County during the month of April to register new voters.

This is the second consecutive year of the outreach and registration initiative.

“Members of the Clerk’s Election Advisory Council (EAC) organized the registration drive in high schools last year with much success,” Clerk Scott A. Krahling said, adding that voter registration outreach is a great opportunity to work with community partners and schools to register newly eligible voters and engage students about the importance of voting.

“We registered more than 400 students, teachers and parents last year,” Krahling said. “The effort in each school is unique, but the message is the same: Your vote can change our community. It is important that each student learns how his or her vote impacts their daily life.”

The registration drive is an initiative of the EAC, which is a group of residents dedicated to increase voting in every election in Doña Ana County.  The council meets the third Tuesday of every month at the Doña Ana County Government Center at 4 p.m., and its meetings are open to the public.

“The EAC creates active community partnerships to build a voting culture in Doña Ana County,” Krahling said.  “We want to invest in generations of people committed to democracy, and talking to every graduating senior in our county is a crucial piece of that plan.”

Students, teachers and parents are welcome to take advantage of the opportunity to register to vote or update registrations with new addresses.
