Las Cruces – A 29-year-old man was arrested early this morning after he physically assaulted his ex-girlfriend and threatened her with a rifle.
Eric A. Cevallos, of 301 Roadrunner Parkway, is charged with two counts of aggravated battery against a household member, two counts of battery against a household member and one count of aggravated assault using a deadly weapon.
Shortly before 11 p.m. on Monday, May 24, Las Cruces Police responded to the High Range Apartments and found the 26-year-old victim in the parking lot suffering from numerous bruises and severe swelling. Detectives learned that the victim had gone to the apartment Monday evening to retrieve some of her property when Cevallos became enraged and began assaulting her.
Detectives believe Cevallos struck the woman numerous times with closed fists and possibly a blunt object. Cevallos also threatened the woman by pointing a rifle at her.
Cevallos remained locked in his apartment for about 25 minutes before officers were able to encourage him to exit peacefully. He was detained and later arrested on the charges.
Detectives served a search warrant on Cevallos' apartment Tuesday morning and located several weapons including the rifle police believe he used to threaten the victim.
Cevallos was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with a cash-only bond set at $35,000.
