The Las Cruces City Council Monday approved a $5.4 million dollar downtown civic plaza. It will be built between Griggs Avenue and the Bank of the West building.
The plaza design includes a splash pad and a stage for performances.
The council approved the plaza 4 to 1.
Mayor Pro Tem Greg Smith was the lone vote against the plaza, saying more input was needed on its design.
Councilors Ceil Levatino and Olga Pedroza did not attend the meeting.
