Las Cruces Crews Battle House Fire; Cause Under Investigation

Las Cruces firefighters extinguished a house fire Sunday evening.

The fire department responded to a residential structure fire at the 2800 block of Primavera Street just before 9 pm Sunday.  The first arriving engine found a smoky haze in the area coming from the back of the house.  The occupants were not home when fire crews arrived.  Neighbors noticed the smoke and attempted to put out the fire with a garden hose.  Fire crews isolated where the structure was still smoldering and extinguished it.

The home suffered moderate damage due to the firefighting efforts getting into the subflooring of the structure.  The actual fire damage was light.  The damage estimate is still being determined. The fire’s origin occurred near the back door.  The cause of the fire is still being investigated.

The Las Cruces Police helped with traffic control.  The American Red Cross was called to help the displaced family.

No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.
