Las Cruces Looks To Strengthen Relations With Mexico

  The Consulate General of Mexico and the City of Las Cruces have announced the presentation of the world-renowned ‘CuartetoLatinoamericano’, the first of a series of Mexican cultural programs aimed to strengthen the friendship that exists between the people of Las Cruces and Mexico.

A news conference regarding the effort will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, in Azul at Hotel Encanto, 705 S. Telshor Blvd., Las Cruces, NM.

Participating in the news conference will be Jacob Prado, Consul General of Mexico in El Paso, and Ken Miyagishima, Las Cruces Mayor. At the news conference Mayor Miyagishima will present the Key to the City to Consul General Prado.

Founded in Mexico in 1982, Cuarteto Latinoamericano represents a unique international voice, spreading Latin American musical creation through their tours in the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Middle East. They’re the recipient of many music industry awards, including the 2012 Latin Grammy Award, for their album "Brasileiro, works of Francisco Mignone".

Cuarteto Latinoamericano was considered by the London Times as "possessing an instinct that places them definitely in the top division of the string quartets", and the Houston Chronicle as "one of the best quartets we've heard in years."

The concert by Cuarteto Latinoamericano will be held at  7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, at the Rio Grande Theatre,211 N. Main St., Las Cruces, NM.
