Las Cruces Man Arrested For Allegedly Teaching 6-Year Old Son About Bombs

By KRWG News

Las Cruces – The Las Cruces Police Department's SWAT team - assisted by officers from New Mexico State Police, the Dona Ana County Sheriff's Office and agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives - arrested a man Thursday morning after detectives learned that he taught his 6-year-old son how to build explosives and threatened to kill the boy's mother.

Anthony Stromberg, 44, of the 5800 block of Stern Drive, was arrested Thursday, July 8, and is charged with one count of child abuse. Stromberg was located at his residence after a warrant from New Mexico's Third Judicial District Court was issued for his arrest.

Las Cruces Police detectives learned that, approximately two weeks ago after having an argument with the mother of his son, Stromberg told the boy that he was going to kidnap his mother and shoot her.

Through the course of their investigation detectives learned that Stromberg taught his son, in detail, how to build explosives. The boy accompanied his father on several occasions to the desert where they would detonate the explosives.

Stromberg and the boy's mother have a shared custody agreement and reside in different homes.

Detectives are continuing their investigation and additional charges against Stromberg are possible. Stromberg is currently being held at the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bond set at $150,000.
