Las Cruces Man Charged In String Of Burglaries

By KRWG News

Las Cruces – A 31-year-old man arrested Wednesday during a high-risk search of his home has been charged with multiple property crimes after police found him in possession of stolen goods from at least three residential burglaries.

Anthony L. Jimenez, of 119 W. Gallagher Ave., is charged with three counts of receiving stolen property, four counts of possession of a firearm by a felon, two counts of receiving stolen property and identity theft. Jimenez is being held without bond at the Dona Ana County Detention Center.

On Aug. 1, 2011, Las Cruces Police began investigating a residential burglary that was reported on the 2100 block of Boise Drive. Police learned that the apartment's tenant had been out of town for two weeks and, when he returned, discovered that his home had been burglarized. Stolen from the apartment were a laptop computer, a flat panel television, stereo speakers and a gun safe with at least 20 firearms inside.

Personal documents were also in the safe including the tenant's birth certificate and records that contained the victim's social security number.

Sometime after the victim reported the burglary, he received information from a financial services company advising that someone was attempting to establish a credit line in his name, using his date of birth and social security number. LCPD detectives contacted the company and learned that someone at 119 W. Gallagher had initiated the credit request.

On Wednesday, Sept. 7, Magistrate Court issued a search warrant for that address and police served it during the early-evening hours. Because of the number of weapons suspected of being inside the residence, LCPD's SWAT and Hostage Negotiation Teams helped clear the home prior to the search. Jimenez was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant and was charged with violating terms of his probation when officer's discovered firearms in his residence.

The search of Jimenez's residence revealed property reported stolen from at least three home burglaries including four firearms from the Boise Drive case.
