Las Cruces Man Indicted In Murder Of Girlfriend

A Las Cruces man has been indicted for first-degree murder in the death of his girlfriend.

A Dona Ana County grand jury leveled the indictment against 23-year-old Corey Franklin. He also faces charges of kidnapping and tampering with evidence.

Franklin went to Las Cruces police on Jan. 21 to report a burglary at his house.

During questioning, police say Franklin changed his story and told them the incident was actually a domestic dispute involving his 24-year-old girlfriend, Graciela Hernandez.

Police say Hernandez's body was found with several stab wounds and lacerations to her head.

It was not known if Franklin had an attorney.

His next hearing is Feb. 16. In the meantime, he remains jailed without bond.
