Las Cruces Middle School On Lockdown As Police Search For Suspect

UPDATE:

The man suspected of running from a New Mexico State Police traffic stop Thursday morning has been located and detained.

The search for the suspect temporarily forced the lockdown of Camino Real Middle School and elementary schools in that area. Those lockdowns have since been lifted.

LCPD learned that a NMSP officer pulled traffic at around 9 a.m. Thursday on a vehicle in the area of Sonoma Ranch Boulevard and Rinconada Boulevard. After the vehicle came to a stop, the driver exited and fled on foot. The NMSP officer gave chase but lost visual of the suspect in an undeveloped area.

LCPD officers located the suspect at around 12:30 p.m. and will hand him over to NMSP officers for further investigation.

Las Cruces Police officers are assisting New Mexico State Police in locating a man who ran from a traffic stop Thursday morning, forcing the temporary lockdown of a local middle school.

LCPD has learned that a NMSP officer pulled traffic on a vehicle on Sonoma Ranch Boulevard Thursday morning. After the vehicle came to a stop, the driver exited and fled the area on foot. The NMSP officer gave chase but lost visual of the suspect in an undeveloped area between Sonoma Ranch Boulevard and Roadrunner Parkway.

Camino Real Middle School has been placed on temporary lockdown as a precautionary measure. Students and staff at elementary schools in the area have been asked to shelter in place.

Police are asking residents who reside in the area to remain indoors and immediately call 911 if they witness suspicious activity. Motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible and refrain from stopping along the roadways.
