By KRWG News

Las Cruces – Las Cruces City Manager Robert Garza has announced the appointment of a new City Attorney.

"I am pleased to announce that I have made a decision to fill the City Attorney position with Mr. Harry (Pete) Connelly. Mr. Connelly has served as Interim City Attorney since the departure of former City Attorney Fermin Rubio in February 2010. Since then, he has ensured the City Attorney's Office ran effectively and all legal matters were managed professionally and with positive outcomes," said Garza.

Mr. Connelly has served the City of Las Cruces for 17 years in various capacities in the City Attorneys Office.

He attended law school at Washburn University School of Law where he obtained a doctorate of law, and Georgetown University School of Law where he further advanced his study of law by obtaining a Master of Laws degree.

Before coming to the City of Las Cruces, he was the City Attorney for the City of Santa Fe, and a Special Assistant Attorney General for the New Mexico Attorney General. While engaged in the private practice of law he served as an Assistant City Attorney for the City of Santa Fe in selected litigation matters.

Mr. Connelly stated "I am thrilled to be named the City Attorney for the City of Las Cruces and ready to take on the responsibilities that come with this appointment."
