Las Cruces Police Continue Investigation into Fatal Shooting

The Las Cruces man who was killed in Tuesday evening’s shooting on Wyoming Avenue has been identified as 29-year-old Christopher “Chris” Mendoza.

Investigators learned that Mendoza received at least one gunshot wound and was unresponsive when police arrived at 1404 Wyoming Ave. Mendoza was transported to Mountainview Regional Medical Center where, shortly after arrival, he was pronounced dead.

A 21-year-old man was also shot during Tuesday’s incident. That man was transported to University Medical Center of El Paso where he remains Wednesday afternoon. His injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.

Investigators have been in contact with the 26-year-old man suspected in the shooting.

The shooting occurred at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31. First-arriving officers located Mendoza and the 21-year-old man outside the apartment.

Las Cruces Police are continuing their investigation and no charges have been filed at this time. Anyone with information relevant to this incident is asked to call police at (575) 526-0795.
