Las Cruces Police are investigating what appears to be a murder-suicide that occurred shortly after noon Monday on the 1800 block of Sexton Street.
Police were called at around 12:20 p.m. Monday, April 7, to the Sexton Apartments at 1850 Sexton St. Upon arrival, officers found a man and woman inside an apartment. Both had gunshot wounds.
The 30-year-old woman, who was pregnant, was treated on scene and then transported to Mountain View Regional Medical Center. Investigators learned that the woman and her unborn child did not survive, and were pronounced dead at the hospital.
Police found a 32-year-old man in the apartment. He was pronounced dead at the scene from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Detectives also learned that a toddler was in the apartment at the time of the shooting. He was not injured.
Detectives are still trying to determine what led to the shooting. Names of the deceased will be released after notification of next of kin.
