Las Cruces Police Issue Dozens Of Tickets In Traffic Safety Crackdown

Las Cruces Police issued 26 citations during a pair of traffic safety operations held Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.

Most of the citations were issued to drivers who were using a cell phone while operating a motor vehicle. It is against city ordinance to use, handle or manipulate a cell phone or any such device while operating a motor vehicle.

Officers issued 18 citations to drivers using a cell phone and three citations for not showing proof of insurance. The remaining citations were for driving on a suspended driver’s license, no seatbelt, expired plate, no registration and running a red light.

The two operations were held the mornings of Tuesday, May 16, and Wednesday, May 17, on Valley Drive near Picacho Avenue.

Las Cruces Police plan to conduct additional traffic safety operations in the near future.
