Las Cruces Progressive Groups Plan Public Meeting Next Week

Las Cruces—“Partnering with Progressives” will be the focus of the July 11 meeting of WE’RE IN: Las Cruces Indivisible.  Representatives of the ACLU, the NEA, Reproductive Rights and ProgressNowNM, will lead group discussions on how WE’RE IN might partner with their groups.  The July 11 meeting runs from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Thomas Branigan Memorial Library, second floor.

July 11 marks six months since the Indivisible group’s founding in January.  In that time, the group has held public meetings twice monthly, delivered letters to the local offices of Sen. Udall, Sen. Heinrich and Rep. Pearce almost weekly. WE’RE IN members have held protests, performed in political theater, and participated in town halls.

As the group moves forward it plans to partner with other groups to mutual benefit.  “A partnership may simply mean posting notices or taking on more ambitious efforts such as event planning,” says Mary Hampton, a member of the outreach team.

She says participants will rotate among the four groups with ample time for Q&A.  Group leaders are Erica McDowell, Project Coordinator, ACLU of New Mexico, Regional Center for Border Rights; Amy Simpson, Organizational Specialist, National Education Association; Rafael Reyes, Reproductive Rights of Southern New Mexico; Lucas Herndon, Communications Manager, ProgressNowNM, Las Cruces; and Maury Castro, Health Security of New Mexico.

The meeting is free and open to the public.  For more information contact Mary Hampton at 575-405-9000.
