Las Cruces Property Owners Asked To Pull Weeds

Las Cruces property owners and residents are being asked to remove weeds and overgrown vegetation from their property.

Rains in the past few weeks have been a boon for plant life but trouble when it comes to keeping weeds and unwanted foliage from spreading. Las Cruces received 3.33 inches of rain in July and above-average amounts of precipitation in six of the first seven months of 2015.

Those conditions have made Las Cruces ripe for weeds and other unwanted vegetation.

Las Cruces Codes Enforcement is asking residents to remove weeds and overgrown vegetation from their property, and along nearby walkways and sidewalks, before the next slew of rainstorms prompt more growth.

According to Weather.com statistics since 2007, July and August are – on average – the two wettest months in Las Cruces. The city normally receives 2.6 inches of rainfall in July and 2.03 inches in August.

Weeds, small branches, cut vegetation, and other yard or green waste can be dumped at the Foothills Landfill, 555 S. Sonoma Ranch Blvd. City residents can dump yard and green waste free of charge at the Foothills Landfill.

Yard and green waste should never be placed in city recycling containers.

Yard waste is composted and turned into mulch at the Foothills Landfill. City residents can also acquire seasoned mulch, free of charge, at the same landfill.

Questions and concerns about noxious weeds or overgrown properties can be directed to Las Cruces Codes Enforcement at (575) 541-4100.
