Las Cruces Superintendent's Contract Extended

By KRWG News

Las Cruces – The LCPS Board of Education has voted unanimously to extend the contract of Superintendent Stan Rounds through June 30, 2013. The vote extends Rounds' current contract by one year, and came after the board met privately with Rounds on his mid-year evaluation.

Board members Dr. Connie Phillips, Dr. Bonnie Votaw, Chuck Davis and Maria Flores all voted for the contract extension. Former Board member Serena Shoop resigned her District 2 position effective January 31. Her replacement is expected to be named by the board by mid-March.

Rounds, 59, became LCPS superintendent in February 2007. He has been a New Mexico educator for more than 37 years and has 24 years of experience as a superintendent in four New Mexico school districts.

"I accept your offer of re-employment," Rounds told board members. "It is an honor to work for this school district," he said.
