Las Cruces Teen Heads To USA Boxing National Championship

Amy Salinas, age 14 of Las Cruces, won the USA Boxing Junior Olympics Regional Championships held May 22-24 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Salinas, a boxer with the Las Cruces Police Athletic League (PAL), beat Hayleigh Solano, age 14 from Arizona, in the 106.lb girls division.

Salinas will now move on to the USA Boxing Junior Olympics National Championships to be held in Charleston, West Virginia, June 8-13. Friends and family of Salinas will be having a car wash fundraiser on Saturday May 30 from 9-12 p.m. at Las Cruces Fitness Center located at 305 Foster Road.

Salinas will be a freshman at Onate High School this coming fall.

Las Cruces PAL Boxing is known for its programs to take "at-risk" youth off the streets and teaching them discipline through boxing. However, the group says youth of all backgrounds are welcomed at the Sammy Burke Youth Boxing Center.
