Las Cruces Teen Pleads Guilty to Murder

  LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Today, District Attorney Mark D’Antonio announced that a Las Cruces teen has pleaded guilty to shooting and killing 17-year-old Jaycob Alba.    

During today’s hearing, D’Shaun Hermans, now 19, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. Per the agreement, Hermans was sentenced to 10 years behind bars then five years on supervised probation.  

In addition to murder, Hermans also pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, tampering with evidence, aggravated battery and shooting at an occupied building. The sentences for those charges and the charges from a separate burglary case will be served concurrently.  

In July 2015, Hermans, Alba and three others attempted to burglarize a mobile home on the 2600 block of Doña Ana Road in Las Cruces. During the incident, Alba was accidentally shot by Hermans and died instantly.     

Meanwhile, the other defendants, Daniel Munoz, Jordan Gift and Adrian Hortelano, are scheduled to go to trial.
