Las Cruces Volunteer Fair Saturday

The City of Las Cruces Network Volunteer Center, along with non-profit partners, is hosting the fifth annual Volunteer Fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 16, in conjunction with the Las Cruces Farmers and Crafts Market.  The fair will be held at the “La Placita” Plaza in downtown Las Cruces, adjacent to the Main Street Bistro.

This year, the Volunteer Fair gathers a record 46 community organizations looking to match area prospective volunteers with potential volunteer opportunities.  “We have held this year’s event at the close of National Volunteer Week,” stated Ryan Steinmetz, volunteer coordinator for the City of Las Cruces.  “We hope to capture that spirit of volunteerism and inspire volunteers to serve their community year-round!” The event will be free, and there will be organizations representing dozens of different causes and service areas along with door prizes and kid’s activities for fun. Caliche’s will also be present to provide free frozen custard to participants who visit five or more organization tables.

“Volunteer opportunities and the number of community members involved in volunteerism are both strong indicators of a healthy and vibrant community,” said Steinmetz.  “Las Cruces is a community whose members care for each other and like to get involved, so if you’re interested in working with veterans or children, serving causes for animals or the environment, or you want to get involved with advocacy or health endeavors, come to the Volunteer Fair! We’ll have an opportunity for you!”

The Volunteer Fair is organized by the City of Las Cruces with a volunteer committee including representatives from Mesilla Valley Habitat for Humanity, Big Brothers/Big Sisters Mountain Region, and SLStart.
