The Latest: Prosecution rests case against 2 police officers

A special prosecutor has rested her case in the trial of two former Albuquerque police officers standing trial in the shooting death of a homeless man.

Attorneys spent the seventh day of the trial of now-retired Detective Keith Sandy and former Officer Dominique Perez questioning the SWAT sergeant who called Perez to the March 2014 standoff with homeless camper James Boyd. The sergeant, now no longer with the Albuquerque Police Department, was the last witness a special prosecutor called to the stand Wednesday.

Sandy and Perez are charged with second-degree murder in Boyd's death, which touched off protests in Albuquerque amid tensions over a high-rate of shootings by police.

Special prosecutor Randi McGinn made her case against Perez and Sandy as she methodically walked jurors through the shooting and events leading up to it.
