Sunday Puzzle.

On-air challenge: Every answer this week is the last name of a world leader of the past 100 years. For each country and an anagram of the name, find the name of the leader.

Ex. Israel, BRAIN --> (Yitzhak RABIN)

  • Russia, INPUT
  • Cuba, ACTORS
  • Philippines, CAROMS
  • Soviet Union, LATINS
  • Pakistan, HOT TUB
  • South Africa, LEADMAN
  • Ethiopia, SEA ISLES
  • Italy, SENIOR CLUB
  • Last week's challenge: This challenge comes from Mike Reiss, who's a writer/producer for The Simpsons. Take the first name of a famous actress. Drop a letter. Rearrange what's left, and you'll get a word used in a particular sport. This actress's last name, without any changes, is another word used in the same sport. What actress is it?

Answer: Kirstie Alley (strike + alley).

Winner: Val Dumond of Lakewood, Wash.

Next week's challenge: This challenge may sound impossible, but there's a good answer. Think of a common two-word phrase, in seven letters, that has two R's in the middle. And "in the middle" means exactly in the middle. What phrase is it?
