After spending the summer leading students around Ireland, New Mexico State University Assistant Professor Dan Dugas and Associate Professor Eric Morgan are presenting “Journey through the Emerald Isle” as the next talk for the Global Connections series presented by the College of Arts and Sciences.
Dugas and Morgan’s lecture will be from 5-6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, at the College of Health and Social Services Annex Auditorium, Room 101A.
From Dublin to Carlow to Sligo, these professors will share the highlights of their trip as well as information about NMSU’s Faculty-Led International Programs (FLiP).
“As a geographer, the opportunity to travel with students and experience a place first-hand, within the context of a class, was not to be missed,” Dugas said.
Their trip was arranged through the Office of Education Abroad at NMSU. Each year this trip brings faculty and students to a new country, where they are able to earn credit hours.
“We will be presenting ideas and images from our dual Faculty-Led International Program trip to Ireland in summer 2016,” Dugas said. “We will discuss Ireland as a site of instruction, the transformative benefits of FLiP classes for students, and the benefits of collaboration in taking students abroad.”
Dugas and Morgan also say they plan to discuss the classes in depth, as well as Ireland’s landscape, history and modern culture.
“Having an experience like this as a student is invaluable,” said Morgan, who teaches in the Department of Communication Studies. “It changes the way one can learn about communication and geography. I’d recommend anyone who can to study abroad at some point in their educational career.”
“Ireland is a wonderful, beautiful place,” Dugas said. “Experiencing that with students was something I’ll never forget.”
