Legislature Votes To Make Chile Faking Illegal

By KRWG News

Santa Fe, NM – The House of Representatives unanimously approved a bill Friday that would subject restaurants, stores and roadside stands to an injunction if they violate the New Mexico Chile Advertising Act. The New Mexico Senate has already passed a companion bill.

The bill is sponsored by Rep. Andy Nunez, who is from the chile capital of Hatch. He says the bill is intended to bring honesty to advertising and protect growers in New Mexico. He tells the Farmington Daily Times that chile producers from other states and countries are falsely labeling their goods as New Mexico chile.
