Little Lewis Fire 70 Percent Contained

By KRWG News

Weed, NM – Rain in the Sacramento Mountains of southern New Mexico has pushed the containment of the Little Lewis fire up to 70 percent.

Evacuated residents of Sacramento and Weed were allowed to return home Friday as well as the areas of Seep, Agua Chiquita, Ehart Canyon and Camp of the Tall Pines.

The lightning-caused fire that began June 28 still is burning in steep, rocky terrain southwest of Weed.

It has charred 1,110 acres as of Saturday morning.

Crews continue to build lines by hand and with the help of bulldozers. Some crews also are working on structure protection.

There's no estimate yet for full containment of the fire.
