Man Accused Of Smashing Windows In Sheriff's Unit

A Chaparral man was arrested Monday for allegedly breaking several windows in a marked Doña Ana County Sheriff deputy’s unit, which was parked at the Chaparral substation.

An employee at the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Department Chaparral substation alerted a deputyMonday after she noticed the parked unit had sustained major damage to the windshield, rear window, and both driver’s-side front and rear windows. Just as a deputy responded to take the report, another deputy was flagged down near De Lara Estates and Carol Lane. A passerby at that intersection alerted the deputy to a suspicious man who was reportedly hiding in the bushes.

The man in the bushes was later identified as 25-year-old Anthony Snyder. Detectives questioned Snyder, and also noticed the shoe impressions discovered near the damaged unit matched the shoes that Snyder was wearing at the time of his arrest.

Snyder was transported to the Doña Ana County Detention Center on one felony count of criminal damage to property. Estimated damages to the unit are approximately $1,300.  Snyder is being held without bond.
