Man Charged In Las Cruces Shooting At House Party

A man suspected of discharging a handgun during a February 2013 house party has been identified and charged with a felony.

Omar S. Alanazi, 19, of the 2100 block of Boise Drive, was arrested Aug. 18 and charged with one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a fourth-degree felony.

Shortly after 1 a.m. on Feb. 23, 2013, Las Cruces Police were dispatched to a report of shots fired inside a home at 4633 Rimrock Drive. Police learned that a party was being held there when a fight broke out.

Detectives determined that after the fight started Alanazi pulled out a handgun, threatened several partygoers and fired at least two rounds while inside the home. No injuries were reported as a result of the gunfire.

Several witnesses identified the shooter as having the first name of Omar, but they did not know his last name. Alanazi was subsequently identified through a photo line-up. He was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center on Aug. 18 but has since posted bail.
