A Tularosa man who accused a local police officer and an Otero County sheriff's deputy of civil rights violations for detaining him and then trying to shock him with a Taser has accepted a cash settlement to dismiss the case.
Eric Dennis' attorney says his client dropped the suit in exchange for $24,500.
Attorney Miguel Garcia says deputy Kyle Graham and Tularosa police officer Emilio Alonzo detained his client at gunpoint in January. Eric Dennis was charged with assaulting an officer after a confrontation where the Taser was unsuccessfully used.
Garcia says the charges were unfounded and later dropped.
Sheriff Benny House said deputy Graham handled the incident in a "textbook" manner and did nothing wrong. Alonzo is now a deputy as well.
