Las Cruces Police arrested a man suspected of knowingly having two stolen firearms in his possession.
John Alexander Moreno, 19, of 435 Ithaca Ct., is charged with two counts of receiving stolen property, firearms. The two counts are fourth-degree felonies.
At around 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, Las Cruces Police were dispatched to the report of a domestic disturbance in progress at Moreno’s residence. Upon arrival, officers determined that no criminal activity had occurred related to the domestic disturbance call, but they did notice a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the apartment.
Officers received consent to search the residence and discovered two firearms – a rifle and handgun – inside the home. Officers checked the firearms with a national database and discovered they had previously been reported stolen.
Moreno claimed ownership of the firearms and indicated he knew they had been stolen.
Moreno was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center where he was initially held without bond.
