Military Helicopter Crashes While Training At Ft. Bliss

A military helicopter from Fort Bragg, North Carolina, has crashed during weekend training exercises at a West Texas post.

An official with Fort Bliss in El Paso says the CH-47 Chinook crashed Saturday night in a training area near Orogrande, New Mexico, with two pilots and two crewmembers on board. Lt. Col. Lee Peters on Sunday declined to say whether anyone was hurt in the accident involving a chopper from the 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade.

Peters says nobody on the ground was hurt. The helicopter crashed during high-altitude and mountainous training.

Messages left Monday with Fort Bliss and Fort Bragg public affairs officials were not immediately returned.

Experts from the U.S Army Combat Readiness Center from Fort Rucker, Alabama, will investigate the accident.
