More Than 800 Volunteer For Great American Cleanup In Las Cruces

By KRWG News

Las Cruces – More than 800 volunteers have already signed up for Saturday's Great American Cleanup hosted by the Keep Las Cruces Beautiful program.

The Great American Cleanup is a nationwide event focusing on litter cleanup and beautification. Groups, organizations, businesses and all residents of Las Cruces can still register for Saturday's cleanup by calling (575) 528-4723. Volunteers also can register online at www.CLCPD.com and clicking the Keep Las Cruces Beautiful link.

KLCB also asks residents of Las Cruces who cannot volunteer for Saturday's cleanup to do what they can in beautifying their own yards this weekend. Properties and neighborhoods that are tidy and free of clutter are beneficial to the entire community.

During the 2010 Great American Cleanup approximately nine tons of litter was collected from throughout the city. The goal this year is to collect at least 18 tons of litter. This year's event will run from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 16. Volunteers receive a "Toss No Mas" t-shirt and a free lunch hosted by Wal-Mart.

Keep Las Cruces Beautiful is part of the Las Cruces Police Department's Codes Enforcement Section. For more information on the Great American Cleanup, contact Craig Fenske at (575) 528-4723 or TTY at (575) 528-4197.
