More High School Students Taking College Courses

Las Cruces, NM – More local high school students are taking college classes ..

Las Cruces Public School students who meet admission criteria now have the choice of taking classes with New Mexico State University or Dona Ana Community College while still in high school.

The dual credit program has seen considerable growth during the past few years.

From last fall to this spring .16 percent growth at the community college .and a 64 percent increase at NMSU.

In all .more than 400 students are taking advantage of the program.

The colleges picked up the students' tuition and Las Cruces Public Schools paid $35,000 for instructional materials last semester.

In addition to enrollment growth .student achievement has been impressive, with 95 percent of students successfully completing the college courses.
