Commentary: Jerusalem’s history is different from currently stated Arab “truth." Israel accepting two states and a divided Jerusalem when it only hears “...death to Israel…”? Secretary of State Kerry should focus on higher priority items, e.g, Russia, Syria, Daesh and Iran.
Jerusalem was founded between 3-4,000 BCE; Jewish conquest came about 1000 BCE (King David). Emperor Hadrian (165 BCE) tried to de-judicize/Hellenize the Roman province. After 689 CE's Muslim conquest,Jerusalem remained undivided, a third-rate province of various caliphates/empires and for 500 years an Ottoman backwater; Jordan closed the old city to jews after 1948: Jewish residents were expelled, Jewish history and archeology - ancient presence - was destroyed. Jerusalem was reunited in 1967 and reopened to all. A divided city lasted some .0003% of its history.
Arab attacks on jews seriously began in the 1920’s and 30’s. The PA and Hamas' charter/covenant still call for Israel’s destruction; not coexistence. A Palestinian “state?” Nonexistent until Arafat’s 1988 declaration, or 1963 words if preferred.
Jerusalem's demanded - one-sided - “redivision" won't bring peace nor end the stand-off. Thank you BDS and Hamas, etc. A divided Jerusalem - within a “Judenrein” Palestinian state (Abbas) - solves nothing. If redivided, Jewish history and holy places in Jerusalem and the west bank all face destruction. Already begun, e.g. a destroyed Rachel’s tomb and arson at Joseph’s. The UN declared the western wall an only "Arab holy site” on 4/15/16. Not funny - and false. Christian churches and sites could have a limited future.
Arab countries keep most Palestinians in sordid camps without resettlement. The UN provides Palestinians unique refugee status - unto the nth generation. The Arab/UN solution is “judenrein.” Another arab preacher on Palestinian official TV, 4/22/16, called for jewish genocide. Peace now? NO...
