Nachison: Grave Concerns About The Iran Nuclear Deal

Commentary:  The US's many issues, mixed with hype and hypocrisy, roil us.  But the world is still out there.  Remember -  Keep Iran nuclear weapons-free ? .....

We now can “officially" understand the deal.  Julie Frifield, the State Department’s Assistant Secretary for Legislative Affairs in a  11/19/15 letter to Rep. Michael Pompeo (R-Kan) said "it’s an unsigned agreement."  Talk about dreaming, geopolitics and appeasement.

The approving entities, the P5+1 and Iran, have signed nothing.  Handshakes make good political headlines and media sales.  Is it binding?  No.  Russia and China are Iran's allies.  France, Germany, the UK and the US are playing with an appeasing geopolitical approach;  Iran plays to win.  Iran will attain billions in sanctions relief and nuclear weapons, essentially for nothing.  Real compliance issues remain.

What is Iran doing behind the scenes?  "To follow our defense programs, we don't ask permission from anyone," Brig. Gen. Hossein Dehqan, Iran's defense minister said, according to the state-run Islamic Republic News Agency (10/11/15).  The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAAEC)’s 2015 report on Iran’s nuclear progress states it was building weapons capacity - using many 2003 and 2011 words and paragraphs; serious allegations remain unaddressed. The IAAEC has a long history of difficulty with Iran.  Now we have more Iranian ballistic missile tests - which could violate other UN resolutions.  We know Iran missiles have multiple warhead capability and ranges over 1,000 miles+.  The P5+1 are not saying anything, other than 'reporting' to the UN.'  Iranian history of non-compliance is irrelevant.

"Nations keep agreements, keep their treaties so long as they continue to do them good.” (Linus Pauling).  This agreement is great for Iran.  Iran will smile, deny and will show only what it so wants.  The agreement ignores potential Iranian hegemony - and Israel's long-term survival.
