Firefighters say they have made significant progress reducing hot spots in a wildfire that has been burning for more than a week just east of the Arizona-New Mexico border.
Fire officials say the Assayii (UH'-saw-he) Lake Fire, which has scorched more than 22 square miles of Navajo Nation land, is now 65 percent contained.
Crews say they will spend Monday continuing to construct fire lines and clearing trees and other debris that could fuel any fire activity.
They say smoke will continue to be visible due to hot and dry weather conditions.
The majority of the evacuations for people living near the rural communities of Naschitti (NAZ'-chit-ee) and Sheep Springs were lifted over the weekend and roads north of the fire were opened.
Areas adjacent to the fire remain closed.
