ALBUQUERQUE (May 4, 2012) – Today, the nation's largest professional employee organization, the National Education Association (NEA), endorsed Martin Heinrich in his campaign for the U.S. Senate.  The NEA has 3 million members across the nation with 9,000 members in New Mexico.

“The NEA proudly supports Martin Heinrich for Senate because Martin understands that our children’s education is New Mexico’s best investment,” said Sharon Morgan, President of NEA New Mexico.  “Martin is the best choice in this election for teachers, parents, students and citizens who want great public schools.”

“As the parent of a public school student, I’m honored to have the endorsement of the National Education Association,” said Heinrich.  “New Mexico’s educators are hard-working professionals that deserve support and appreciation for their efforts.  In the U.S. Senate, I will make sure our teachers have the tools necessary to provide our children with a world-class education.”

In Congress, Martin Heinrich voted to save the jobs of 1,100 New Mexico teachers by eliminating tax loopholes for companies that ship American jobs overseas.  Heinrich also co-sponsored legislation with Rep. Ben Ray Lujan (NM-03) to extend the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act, a bill to support public schools and infrastructure projects in rural New Mexico.
