The state has awarded nearly $97 million for the design and construction of public schools across New Mexico.
The Public School Capital Outlay Council said the state aid will be matched with nearly $91 million in local financing.
School districts in Raton, Ruidoso, Alamogordo, Albuquerque, Carlsbad, Clovis, Gallup, and Mountainair as well as the New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired and the New Mexico School for the Deaf will receive the capital improvement money.
State financing comes from bonds backed by severance taxes on oil and natural gas production.
The council also awarded $7.4 million for school building roof repairs and replacement in 10 districts and $14.3 million to 95 charter schools to help pay for building leases.
