New City Attorney and New Economic Development Director For Las Cruces

Today, City Manager Stuart C. Ed announced he has filled two department head positions. Jennifer Vega-Brown will be the new City Attorney, and Philip San Filippo will serve as director of the City’s newly-created Economic Development department.

“The City of Las Cruces is indeed fortunate to have this caliber of talent successfully recruited and retained. Both individuals have strong ties to our community and will be able to affect immediate, positive impacts,” said Ed.

Vega-Brown, who will be head of the City’s Legal department, has served as City Attorney for the City of Rio Rancho, where she also held the position of Assistant City Attorney. Prior to that, she was Assistant County Attorney and Public Information Official for Bernalillo County. She received her law degree from the University of New Mexico School of Law, and both her Master and Bachelor of Arts degrees from New Mexico State University. Vega-Brown will replace Rusty Babington who retires in May. Vega-Brown will beginApril 10.

San Filippo, who has been serving as interim Economic Development director, has been Executive Director of Visit Las Cruces (Las Cruces Convention and Visitors Bureau) for six years. Previous experience includes Director of Sales and Marketing for Scanfinest Ltd., Director of Promotions and Media Events for what is now Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada, and top positions with the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism and Places to Go. San Filippo will begin March 27.
