New Dona Ana County Magistrate

By KRWG News

Las Cruces – Conrad F. Perea has been reappointed to serve as a Dona Ana County magistrate.

Perea, magistrate from 1999-2000, most recently was assistant professor of criminal justice at Dona Ana Community College. He spent 20 years as a Las Cruces police officer and served as Pro Tem magistrate since 2004, filling in for judges during absences.

Gov. Bill Richardson announced the appointment Tuesday, saying Perea has vast experience with Magistrate Court, including hundreds of hours volunteering and training court clerks. Richardson says Perea's experience will serve him well.

Perea earned associate and bachelor's degrees from New Mexico State University and a law degree from the University of Denver.

He replaces Joseph Guillory, who resigned last week.
