A state Court of Appeals judge who lost in the general election is asking to be considered for an upcoming vacancy on the court.
A Judicial Nominating Commission announced Wednesday that Judge J. Miles Hanisee is among seven applicants for a vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Celia Foy Castillo at the end of the year.
The commission meets Dec. 4 in Santa Fe to interview the applicants and recommend candidates to Republican Gov. Susana Martinez for possible appointment to the court.
Other applicants are Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court Judge Judith Nakamura, state Administrative Office of the Courts director Arthur Pepin and lawyers Michelle A. Hernandez, Ned Fuller, John H. Clough and David K. Brooks.
Martinez appointed Hanisee, a Republican, last year but he lost to Democrat Monica Zamora.
