New Mexico Man Gets Probation For Harassing Wildlife

ROSWELL, N.M. (AP) — Officers with the New Mexico Game and Fish Department say tips from the public led to the prosecution of a Roswell man on wildlife harassment charges.

Twenty-eight-year-old Enrico Amaya pleaded no contest this week to charges that he allegedly chased a herd of pronghorn in a pasture near town with his off-highway vehicle on several occasions.

Authorities say continued chasing of the game animals during the summer heat could have led to exhaustion and death.

Court records show Amaya was given a suspended 182-day jail sentence during a hearing in magistrate court. He'll have to serve supervised probation by enrolling in the county jail's alternative educational program.
