A New Mexico man who accused a Clovis police officer of using excessive force is scheduled to appear in court on misdemeanor charges stemming from the heated traffic stop.
The Clovis News Journal reports a hearing for 26-year-old Jorge Corona is scheduled Thursday as prosecutors seeks a change of venue.
Deputy District Attorney Brian Stover says he doesn't believe a fair trial can be obtained in Curry County due to recent media coverage.
Corona faces misdemeanor counts of concealing identity and resisting arrest.
Clovis police recently launched an investigation following a YouTube video of officer Brent Aguilar slamming a handcuffed Corona into the asphalt during a traffic stop in August.
Corona's attorney, Dan Lindsey, says a change of venue for misdemeanor charges would be taxing for his client.
