New Mexico School District Bans Cell Phones

tatumschools.org

A southeastern New Mexico school district has banned students from having cell phones after officials say bullying comments were made on social media.

The Hobbs News-Sun reports that Tatum Municipal Schools Superintendent Buddy Little announced Thursday students won't be allowed to carry cell phones on campus due to anonymous comments made on the Yik Yak app.

Little says some students complained to officials and administrators started monitoring the site. He says officials found cases of bullying and comments directed at staff.

Students had been allowed to carry cell phones at school as long as they did not have them out during class time.
