New Mexico Still Handling Employee Paycheck Problems

The state Department of Finance and Administration says paycheck problems for more than 30 employees are expected to be fixed Friday.

Department spokesman Tim Korte says the problem started with a software glitch last week that was expected to delay the paychecks of about 7,000 employees. The state had identified 724 employees as of Sunday whose pay still wasn't correct. Korte says 33 employees remain short on their checks.

The Santa Fe New Mexican reports that the glitch left many employees angry and with late fees on automatic bill payments.

The department told state employees that it would consider requests to cover overdraft fees but that employees first should ask their banks for fee waivers.

Korte says it's still unclear what caused the glitch.
