New Mexico – Thirty-eight teachers around New Mexico were awarded energy exploration grants of up to $2,000 each this year.
Teachers in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Rio Rancho, Las Vegas, Deming, Alamogordo, Bernalillo, Ruidoso, Tularosa and Sandia Park received grants in 2010.
Their projects included solar and wind energy.
The grants came from the PNM Fund, a division of the PNM Resources Foundation, which was created by Public Service Company of New Mexico shareholders in 1983.
The executive director of the PNM Fund, Diane Harrison Ogawa, says the grants go to New Mexico teachers who want to engage their students on the issue of energy.
She says it's a topic critical to the economy and quality of life.
