Newly Elected Legislators Look Toward Santa Fe

Democrats in Southern New Mexico won many state legislature races this Election Day, now they are looking toward Santa Fe.

Jeff Steinborn is moving from the state house of representatives to the state senate, beating incumbent Lee Cotter in Senate District 36. He said he’s looking forward to getting to work in Santa Fe.

“Continue many of the same things,” Steinborn said. “Creating good jobs, improving our schools, protecting our natural resources, improving our education system, helping continue to support our veterans and active duty military, and working with my great new colleagues elected in this county.”

Nathan Small won the race in New Mexico House District 36, he says he hopes to work on ethics reform in Santa Fe among other things.

“Focusing on Student success,” Small said. “With public education driven by teachers able to teach instead of focusing on standardized testing. An economy that works for us all.”

Joanne Ferrary came out on top in the State House of Representative District 37 race, she says she’s going to work on concerns she heard while she was campaigning, kids and families.

“And so early childhood and teacher salaries,” Ferrary said. “Early Childhood education is really important. So, I’m listening and that’s what I want to continue to do as a legislator.”
