New Mexico – SANTA FE, N.M. (KRWG) Former Gov. David Cargo will be honored later this month when a sculpture of him is unveiled in the state Capitol.
Cargo, an Albuquerque Republican, served two terms as governor from 1967 through 1970.
The Legislative Council Service says a bronze bust of Cargo will be unveiled during an Aug. 18 ceremony.
The Legislature approved a measure this year providing for the placement of the sculpture in the Capitol.
During Cargo's tenure, a state film office was established and the New Mexico Human Rights Commission was created.
